Dear Orthopterists,

Welcome to the 12th International Congress of Orthopterology.  I am also very pleased to welcome you to Ilhéus and to Brazil.

As the board of The Orthopterists’s Society decided in 2013, now the ICO will take place every 3 years. So, it is with great pleasure that I will host the next one here: from October 30th to November 03rd, 2016.

The overall topic for this ICO is “Orthoptera in a Changing World”,  which will raise fundamental questions about the current state of knowledge of Orthopera in different branches of science.

In addition to global climate change, greater efforts have been made for more effective conservation policies. While we have a lot of undiscovered biodiversity, its loss is incessant. So, in this global context, we are eager to hear your insights and the results of your researches.

The ICO seeks to stimulate a productive exchange of information and ideas among orthopterists from around the world, and we will make all the efforts to have a very exciting scientific program to attract not only the established research workers but also young researchers and scientists-in-training as well. A broad range of topics will be addressed and the lectures, symposia and workshops are intended to give an overview and updates on recent research. Students and the researchers may benefit from the discussions and gather expertise with the new realities and assorted difficulties, seeking and pointing out alternative paths for future research. Besides, the ICO is also a very important event to establish contacts for future studies.

In addition to the exciting academic program, I hope that you will also participate in the social events that have been arranged for you, including the post conference tour.

Ilhéus is a small city at the coast of Bahia state and is one of the most important touristic destinations, specially because of its beautiful beaches, surrounded by the Atlantic Forest region.

So, I cordially invite you to register and to submit abstracts for poster and/or oral presentations and talks.

I look forward to welcoming you to Bahia!
